The main aim of the inventor was to introduce saving practice among the farmers in Karnataka. Vijaya Bank was given scheduled bank status in the year 1958 and later it started growing by merging with 9 small banks between 1963 and 1968. With this steady growth, Vijaya Bank became a national Bank in 1980 and at present it has the highest number of branches in the state of Karnataka.
